Easthampton, MA: Matthew S. Sosik, President and CEO of bankESB, presented a check for $75,000 to Riverside Industries on December 19, 2018, toward the Riverside Industries Bridge Replacement Campaign.
The donation to Riverside Industries came from the need to replace a 90 year-old bridge on their property that had become unsound, which was critical to the safety of over 500 people who live and work there. This bridge now provides emergency access and a safer path to enter and exit the entrance to the building.
“It is with much gratitude that we thank the Easthampton Savings Bank Foundation for being our Champion Donor to our bridge replacement project,” said Charlene Gentes, President and CEO of Riverside Industries. “This was an unusual capital improvement for a non-profit and bankESB’s generous gift allowed us to move forward. We cannot thank the Foundation enough. Their support allows us to remain accessible and stay in the heart and center of downtown Easthampton.”
For 50 years, Riverside Industries has been providing people with intellectual and developmental disabilities assistance to integrate into the community and improve their daily life independence for over 3,000 people.
“Riverside Industries is one of the great places within our city that provides programs to those in need of assistance, and we couldn’t be more thankful for their outstanding service to our community. This donation means a lot to us, and we are happy to help continue their mission of providing life skills and employment to people in western Massachusetts” said Sosik.
In addition to the bridge donation, earlier in the year, bankESB nominated Riverside Industries for the Massachusetts Bankers Association Charitable Foundation award. From this nomination, they were awarded with a $2,000 Honorable Mention.
“We are honored that bankESB nominated Riverside as the recipient of the Mass Bankers Association Community Grant Award. We thank them for being an Ambassador of our mission and supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live rich and full lives,” said Gentes.
The foundation awards are symbolic of the many individual donations banks make on a regular basis to organizations and causes in their local communities. In addition to the nearly $89 million a year given by Massachusetts banks to local charities, MBA member bank employees contribute thousands of volunteer hours across the Commonwealth.
